- 1 crusty baguette
- 200 g pork tenderloin, sliced
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp fish sauce
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 cucumber, sliced
- 2 carrots, julienned
- 100 g pickled daikon radishes
- Fresh cilantro
- 2 tbsp mayonnaise
- Fresh chili, sliced (to taste)
Method
- Marinate the pork slices in a mixture of soy sauce, fish sauce and sugar for at least 30 minutes.
- Heat a pan over medium heat and fry the marinated pork until cooked through and lightly caramelized. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Slice the baguette lengthwise and spread mayonnaise on both sides.
- Arrange the cooked pork on one side of the baguette.
- Add slices of cucumber, julienned carrots, pickled daikon radishes and fresh cilantro on top of the pork.
- For those who want extra heat, add fresh chili slices to taste.
- Place the other half of the baguette on top of the filling and press lightly together.
- Cut the sandwich into suitable serving portions and serve immediately.
Vegetarian version with tofu
For a vegetarian version of Banh Mi, you can replace the pork with 200 g firm tofu. Cut the tofu into thin slices and marinate it as described above. Fry the tofu slices until golden, then follow the rest of the recipe as instructed.
