About us
In 1990 we opened our shop, which is still located in the same place on Nørrevoldgade in central Copenhagen.
Behind Den Kinesiske Købmand are Quyen Le Truong and Hung Hue Quach. We both come from Cholon, the Chinese district in Saigon in Vietnam, and came to Denmark in the late 1970s.
We import directly ourselves from countries such as China, Japan, Korea, Thailand and the USA. Twice a week we have fresh greens flown in from Thailand.
The reason for this was that we ourselves missed having access to a varied and authentic range of Asian food products. At the same time we experienced a generally growing interest in food from Asia here in Denmark. We therefore decided to do something about it. The result was Den Kinesiske Købmand, which now supplies Asian products not only to private customers, but also to restaurants and catering companies.
During the years we have run the shop, we have travelled extensively in the Far East and built a network of suppliers who now provide us with a wealth of products — and new ones are constantly being added. We import directly ourselves from countries such as China, Japan, Korea, Thailand and the USA. Twice a week we have fresh greens flown in from Thailand. We also trade through wholesalers in Germany and France. The goal is always to have a varied and up-to-date selection of Asian food products.
We take pride in knowing what we sell. We are simply interested in the products. Therefore we also use them ourselves in our private household, where we experiment with them, develop new recipes or modify old ones so that we preserve the authentic Asian atmosphere at the table, even though the evening meal has been prepared during a typically busy Danish everyday life, where we don't have as much time to make it as many Asian homemakers do. You are always welcome to ask us if you would like a good suggestion for how one of our products can be used.
