Spice that adds umami

Ajinomoto was the first brand to make monosodium glutamate (MSG) available as a flavor enhancer back in the early 1900s. MSG is often called “the third spice” because it adds umami – the fifth basic taste alongside sweet, sour, salty and bitter. Rather than changing the taste of your ingredients, MSG highlights the natural aromas and gives a fuller, rounder flavor experience.

It takes only a small amount of MSG to enhance the natural flavor in your dishes.

✅ For soups and broths: add approx. ½ teaspoon (≈ 2 g) to 250 ml.

✅ For fried rice or noodles: use about ¾ teaspoon (≈ 3 g) for 300 g.

✅ For meat, fish and vegetables: sprinkle a little during cooking to give a deeper flavor profile.
